Every workshop should fly its own colours. These are ours. Inspired by the founders real world use of maritime courtesy flags, quarantine flags and signal flags aboard his various voyages across multiple oceans.

Cut & sewn from the last Australian-made oilskin canvas. In late 2024, after decades of manufacturing in New South Wales, Australian oilskin production ceased permanently. We secured the final rolls as the doors closed. Most of that fabric is becoming bedrolls and tarps. Some of it, we decided, should become flags.

In the Royal Navy, flags weren't made in a factory. They were sewn by hand in the Colour Loft - a dedicated room in the dockyard sail loft, where the fleet's ensigns and signals were cut from working cloth by the same trade that made the sails. Our colour loft is one corner of a Tasmanian workshop. The tradition holds: flags sewn from the same cloth as everything else on the bench.

Each flag is built the way we build our tarps, just smaller. Navy and tan oilskin panels, seams sewn flat, a reinforced hoist band with solid brass eyelets top and bottom. The eyelets are made in outer Melbourne on machinery more than a century old, converted from steam to electricity and never retired. No printing anywhere - every line of colour is a separate piece of cloth, cut and sewn.

Each flag ships with a provenance card recording the story of the fabric - the mill, the closure, and the final rolls this flag was cut from.

The grommeted hoist bends onto a halyard for the stern, the flagpole or the shed gable. Hung flat above the bench, the bunk or the fireplace, it does quiet duty as the only flag in the room made from fabric with a story worth telling.

Spot clean only. Like everything we make, guaranteed for life with free repairs.
