Oilskin/Wool Wash Kit

Everything you need to wash one of our oilskin and wool blankets, and put the waterproofing back afterwards. A gentle wool detergent for the wool side and a reproofing spray for the oilskin side, both made in Australia.

Most of the time your blanket does not need washing at all. Wool is naturally antimicrobial and lets go of odour on its own, so a hard shake and a few hours on the line on a dry, breezy day handles smoke, damp and a season of use. Spills get blotted with cold water. We recommend spot cleaning only.

But if a blanket has been through enough that it needs a full wash, this is the kit. Regular laundry detergent is alkaline and strips the lanolin from wool, and any wash takes some of the proofing out of the oilskin. The kit looks after both.

How to use it

1. Hand wash in the bath in cold water with the wool detergent. Press the blanket up and down with flat hands. Never scrub, twist or wring it.
2. Rinse in clean cold water until it runs clear, then press out as much water as you can.
3. Lay it flat to dry, out of direct sun. No dryer.
4. Once it is completely dry, spray the oilskin side evenly with the reproofing spray in a warm room or outside on a warm day, and let it set before use.
